I’m Brent Eviston. I use drawing to investigate the physical world around me and to explore the inner realm of the mind. I believe drawing is more than a skill. It is one of the most powerful tools we have for connecting with the world, with ourselves, and with one another.
This exhibition is for anyone interested in drawing, creativity, or self-discovery.
My work falls into two broad categories: observational and imaginative.
My observational drawings are a way of investigating and connecting with the physical world. They are acts of careful study, driven by curiosity and fascination. Through observation, drawing reveals a world far richer and stranger than we usually notice.
My imaginative drawings serve a different purpose entirely. They’re the vehicles I use to explore memory, imagination, symbolism, dreams, and the strange architecture of the mind. In fact, they’re so different from my observational work that I occasionally receive emails from fans telling me they’ve discovered another artist named Brent Eviston whose work they suspect I won’t like.
As an artist, I find it essential to explore the full breadth of drawing experiences, from the highly technical to the wildly expressive and imaginative.
I have dedicated my life to sharing my love of drawing with as many people as possible. I’ve taught workshops, created online courses, written books, and enthusiastically harangued just about anyone willing to listen about the power of learning to draw.
Drawing is not a talent. It is a skill anyone can learn through dedicated practice and thoughtful instruction. As a drawing instructor, I love teaching both technical skill and creative exploration.
Ultimately, I draw for the same reason I teach: to connect more deeply with the world around me and the world within me. You, too, can experience that same connection through drawing, regardless of your experience or ability. All you need is a little curiosity and an openness to new experiences.
